Fall’s gifts

Water hawthorneAfter the snow two weeks ago and subsequent bitter cold nights, there’s not much green or flowering visible in the gardens.  One exception is this water hawthorne (Aponogeton distachyos) — an aquatic plant.  Its white fragrant blooms are delightful amid the brown leaves of fall.  Here’s a closeup view of this delicate flower.

Water hawthorneThe other gift of fall which I received today was the garlic.  It’s coming up beautifully.
